Terms of Service

The agreement between you and RateExchanger.io for using the website, dashboard and API.

Last updated October 27, 2026

1. Agreeing to these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and RateExchanger.io ("we", "us"). By creating an account, calling the API or otherwise using the service, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the service.

If you use the service for a company or other organization, you agree to these terms on its behalf and confirm you're allowed to do so. You must be old enough to enter a binding contract where you live.

2. The service

RateExchanger.io provides an HTTPS API and a web dashboard for currency exchange rates. Rates come from third-party data providers and are refreshed about every 30 minutes, so they can differ from the rate a bank, card network or exchange gives you at any moment.

Rates are provided for information only. They are not financial, investment or tax advice and are not an offer to buy or sell currency. Check rates against another source before relying on them for payments, trading, accounting or other decisions where accuracy matters.

3. Your account and API keys

You can sign up with an email address and password or with Google. Keep your account details accurate and your password secure. You're responsible for everything done with your account and your API keys.

API keys identify your account, and every request made with them counts toward your plan. Keep them on your server, never in browser code or app bundles, and revoke any key you think has been exposed. Tell us at contact@rateexchanger.io if you suspect someone else is using your account.

4. Plans and request limits

Every new account starts on the Free plan. Each plan includes a set number of API requests per month, shown on our website and in your dashboard. Yearly plans get a fresh monthly allowance each month of the billing year.

Every request to any endpoint counts toward your allowance, including requests that return an error. Once the allowance is used up, the API returns a 429 error until your next monthly allowance starts or you upgrade. If your subscription is no longer active, the API returns a 403 error.

Some features, such as collections, a custom base currency or more than one API key, are only available on certain plans. We may change what each plan includes; changes that reduce a paid plan take effect at your next renewal.

5. Payments and billing

Paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or yearly, in US dollars plus any applicable taxes. Payments are processed by Stripe; we don't store your full card number.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price until you change plans or close your account. We'll tell you before a price change applies to your subscription.

  • Upgrades take effect immediately. You're charged the prorated difference for the rest of the current billing period.
  • Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period. You keep your current plan until then.
  • If a payment fails, your subscription may become inactive and API requests are refused until a payment goes through.

6. Cancellation and refunds

You can close your account at any time from your dashboard. When you do, your subscription is cancelled with no further charges, and we refund the unused part of your current billing period to the payment method you paid with. The refund is in proportion to the time left in the period and includes the matching share of any tax you paid.

Apart from that refund, payments are non-refundable, including for months or years already used. Card refunds usually take 5 to 10 business days to appear, depending on your bank.

7. Acceptable use

You may use the API in your own websites, apps and internal tools, and show rates to your users. You agree not to:

  • resell, sublicense or redistribute the raw rate data as your own exchange-rate API or data feed;
  • share API keys outside your organization, or open several accounts to get around your plan's limits;
  • interfere with or disrupt the service, probe it for vulnerabilities without permission, or access it other than through the API and dashboard;
  • use the service for anything unlawful, including to break sanctions or financial regulations.

8. Your data

To count usage and show your dashboard, we log each API request: the endpoint, query parameters, response status and size, the API key used and your IP address. Request logs are deleted automatically after a limited retention period.

When you close your account, we erase your API keys, request logs, collections, saved payment methods and support tickets, and anonymize your profile. We keep subscription and invoice records as required for accounting and tax purposes. Our Privacy Policy explains in detail what we collect and how we handle it.

9. Availability and changes

We work to keep the service fast and available, but we don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and paid plans don't include a service level agreement. We may need to pause the service for maintenance or because of problems with our data providers.

We may add, change or remove features. If we make a change that significantly reduces what a paid plan includes, we'll tell you by email in advance.

10. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, don't pay, or use the service in a way that harms us, our providers or other users. Where reasonable, we'll warn you first and give you a chance to fix the problem. If we close a paid account without cause, we refund the unused part of the current billing period.

11. Disclaimers

The service and all rate data are provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

12. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, revenue or data, including losses from decisions made using our rates. Our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited under applicable law, or any rights you have as a consumer that can't be waived.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be handled by the courts of Ontario, Canada, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it elsewhere.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. For significant changes we'll email you at least 30 days before they take effect. If you keep using the service after that, you accept the new terms; if you don't, you can close your account and receive the refund described above.

15. Contact

Questions about these terms, or legal notices, can be sent to contact@rateexchanger.io.
